The continuation of IMSS's annual general meeting is Saturday at 2 p.m. The meeting on Jan. 21 was adjourned after the auditor got the date wrong; however, an estimated 60 people did attend the meeting only to find a surprising lack of financial statements and a refusal by the executive director to discuss operational matters.

The membership voted to have an investigative committee look into the "operational irregularities." One of the issues is that the board has shut down membership applications. The link to apply for membership has been eliminated despite the claim on the website that membership is open to anyone of any language, religion, or ethnic origin who is legally in Canada. The board will not reveal who has applied for membership or who has been accepted or refused during the past three years. In fact, there has been no communication between the board and the people who have applied for membership to tell them that their membership has been denied.

The board's president, Mostafa Mohamed, claims that he is trying to protect the organization from rogue members who seek to overthrow the board out of support for ex-employees. However, it is the organization's lack of transparency and communication which have encouraged many new applications for membership, mine included. He encourages new members to apply in a few years; in a few years, we fear the organization may not be in existence.

Please come to the meeting today and show the board that transparency with our tax dollars is vital.
