I will remember you

Years ago I went to a memorial service and a grand-daughter sang the song, "I Will Remember You." We are approaching Remembrance Day and we remember those that served and died for their country. Perhaps we experienced the loss of a loved one not long ago and are remembering them daily.

This past summer I went to the gravesite of my father. We don't have any children so I wondered, who will remember me when I am gone? As I passed by the grave markers, I noticed how old some of them were. Who visits them any more? Who even remembers who they are? In fifty years there may be a few who remember us; in a 100 years, probably noone.

But there is someone who will remember you.

"Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and everyone was judged according to what they had done." (Revelations 20:11-13)

This is what some call the White Throne Judgment. Who is sitting on this white throne?

He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. (Revelations 21: 5-6)

The one sitting on the throne is our friend Jesus. He offers us spiritual water different from regular physical water.

Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this [physical] water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:13-14)

Jesus will never forget us. He says, "I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20)." He writes our name in His Book of Life. He offers us the gift of life, His Holy Spirit, so we can be with Him forever. We need not worry that noone will put flowers on our grave. If we accept His Holy Spirit, we will be risen with Him in His Kingdom for all eternity!
