Term limits are an issue.
One example of this was that I did not vote for Brian Skakun on his third time around and neither will Frank Everitt and Albert Koehler get my vote for their third term.
I have not voted for Murry Krause for the same reason but more importantly because between yourself and MLA Shirley Bondproviding the money, you both have helped Prince George to become well known as the "Homeless Capital."
The place to be just stop and ask them. Too many hand-outs. Why contribute when you don't have to?
It is highly unlikely that any one of those incumbent councilors will withdraw their intentions to run even after they have read Neil Godbout's editorial (Jan. 15).They're definitely trying to hold onto their power. After eight years you would have championed your ideas and it's now time to step aside and let others bring their visions and ambitions to the council seat.
This year's fall election should have several referendum questions for the voting public.
1. When a referendum question is formulated, all options conceivable must be on the ballot - yes or no.
The $35 million pool question did not offer any choice but a yes or no answer.
One obvious choice would have been whether you would prefer a partnership with our local YMCA. The money spent to purchase the Days Inn and demolish it would not be the preferred plan by many of us. The city also would not have to run the operation with city employees as well it would eliminate that yearly cost to taxpayers and would benefit the YMCA by complementing their services. This would have been a win-win situation for both parties.
With the Ramada, the Coast Inn of the North, and the new Marriot all having their own pools, I don't see where a pool downtown would get the use required to even pay the yearly operating costs.
My advice would be to knock the Days Inn down and sell it to a developer who will build what's important to downtown.
The pool referendum should be disqualified because there was missing information on the options the City Council and the Mayor never mentioned to the public. The next referendum on the pool should be during this fall's civic elections.
2a. Are you in favour of term limits for mayor? If your answer is yes, put an X in the box corresponding for the number of terms.
2b. Are you in favour of term limits for councillor seats? If your answer is yes, put an X in the box corresponding for the number of terms.
3. Should the number of council seats begender neutral?Gender neutral breeds harmony and is appropriate.
4. Should ballots say who are the incumbents? This eliminates the less informed that might vote for incumbents just because.
5. On projects that value more than half a million dollars the mayor cannot be the deciding vote? Further deliberations are required and a possible referendum.
