What on earth has the city done by funding the Marriott Hotel? As a former longtime resident I remember the initial construction, trying to negotiate the entrance to the library, and the initial promises the developer made. A boondoggle in the making and no one in authority with the courage to say so.
Having been personally involved with many others in the long ago campaign to revitalize the downtown, I read this with dismay as I also remember all the objections to creating a performing arts centre due to lack of funding. Hello?
I'm a believer in Keynesian economics to revitalize a country but funding a private venture with taxpayer's money has to be seriously questioned.
