Hold China accountable

Canada, the United States and countless other countries have been living the multi-faceted international disaster that is the COVID-19 virus. Hopefully these individual national catastrophes will begin to come to a close one of these months. By then, mainland China’s punishment and own national nightmare for the incredible worldwide damage its actions have caused should have begun.

Instead of quickly declaring that it had an unusual, dangerous disease on its hands, China’s communist government tried to suppress this, even arresting Chinese doctors who were trying to raise the alarm. Instead of warning of this lethal virus and giving and receiving help to deal with it, China tried to sweep it under the carpet.

In any event, scientists believe that if interventions could have started three weeks earlier in China, cases could have been reduced by 95 per cent. Travel from Wuhan could have been regulated, possibly containing the virus to just within the city limits. Other countries could have also immediately restricted travel from China and many thousands of deaths prevented, never mind all the other damage, such as to national economies.

For what it has done, which has affected really the whole world, China should become a worldwide pariah. It should be shunned, uninvited, for instance, to events like the Olympics. Western companies need to immediately begin to stop doing business there. I personally now do not plan to buy anything from China, I just won’t. Taiwan yes, Japan yes and other nations but not China. I also plan to write to corporations like Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Home Depot and others to tell them that I want to have a choice from having to buy Chinese products. If they won’t provide them, I will find them somewhere else and am happy to spend more for them. We are learning that cheap Chinese crap is really far too expensive.

If it wants to change its outcast status and rejoin the family of nations, China can pay many trillions of dollars of its great wealth to pay for the damage it has done. It can come clean on what really happened. Its leaders can step down or be swept from power as the Soviet communists were as jobless Chinese people realize what their repressive, God-hating, communist overlords have brought upon their once great civilization.
