Polio is not gone yet!
Poliomyelitis is a severe disease that can cause irreversible paralysis and even death. In Canada, we see polio as a problem of past times, but it is not gone from this world. In 2016, there were still new infections registered in Pakistan and Afghanistan. We are so close to eradicating this disease and need one last push to achieve this goal.
Funding is urgently needed to keep international immunization campaigns going and to ensure the safe delivery of this care in the most underserved and remote areas of this world.
By providing additional funding, Canada can establish itself as global leader in health and would be well on its way back to the top of the global stage.
