Headline, cartoon classless combo

On April 27, an article appeared with the title Naturopath Born Killers.

I couldn't believe my eyes.

In our multicultural, interracial community, where we are tying to tackle prejudice on every level and sphere, The Citizen was reprinting from the Canadian Press. This was hardcore, in your face bigotry.

It implies that MDs are the only ones qualified to treat illnesses. This is absurd.

Medical doctors are trained to diagnose and treat symptoms and diseases with pharmaceutical medications. Yet a study a few years ago listed the top 10 ways people die. The fourth reason was that MDs missed the diagnosis altogether. The fifth most common way people die is from MDs prescribing the wrong medication.

I ask you, how safe is it for you to rely solely on what your doctor says?

Even though my father died because of a missed diagnosis, I would not say that MDs are born killers. No one can go to school for seven years and expect to know everything about the human body. That is why we have specialists and alternative solutions to help us cope and recover from health challenges.

The Citizen then followed up on that article with a cartoon on April 30 with a picture of a scary monster under the bed with the caption "Scream for my parents? They're way scarier - they're naturopaths."

I thought The Citizen had more class than to run such a bigoted cartoon.

We have to learn to live together and work together in this country.

My wife goes to a great MD who works in conjunction with a naturopath and other health care professions. It makes for a great combination and a healthier and happier wife.
