Re: Nathan Giede's article about the useless gun control laws.
When Bill C 68 (the long gun registry) was enacted most gun owners saw it as a knee-jerk reaction to the Polytechnic incident. And as the years progressed after its passage we found out that it was not only a useless waste of tax dollars but actually cost lives.
Two cases in point: in 1996 a four-year-old boy was mauled to death at Green Lake in the Cariboo by a black bear. After the mother failed to discourage the bruin the neighbour heard her screams and ran for his rifle. He was not able to find the key to his locked gun!
The other case being the disastrous Mayerthorpe slaying of four young RCMP constables by a mad man. The maniac was known to have firearms. He bragged that he was going to kill cops. His family knew he was a deranged man, yet he was not relieved of his firearms! So much for a law that was supposed to protect citizens. A pox on the Liberals for first bringing this idiotic piece of legislation into force. And not having the good, common sense to rescind it after billions wasted on it and never having an effect on criminals who don't register their firearms. I call it (Bill C-68) the Dog Catcher's Syndrome, whereby the dog catcher nabs the harmless, little mutt that runs up to be petted while the large, aggressive hounds make their escape.
