Gov't needs to rein in fuel industry

When the multinational fuel industry finally convinced the Liberal government under then Prime Minister Jean Chretien to sell Petro Canada, this industry stated they wouldn't hold Canadians hostage at the pumps.

When the multinational fuel industry finally convinced the Liberal government under then Prime Minister Jean Chretien to sell Petro Canada, this industry stated they wouldn't hold Canadians hostage at the pumps.

During the 1970s, our representatives in Ottawa were forced into purchasing Gulf Canada since the petro fuel industry couldn't behave. This industry has a very poor track record at being honest. With a barrel of fuel selling below $50 a barrel and it has been that level for a large number of months. I was shocked when I stopped to get fuel to see the cost of fuel had risen 10 cents a litre.

This is the same industry that gave out pink slip to 65,000 of their hard workers. This industry cannot police itself and far as I'm concerned is in need of a good spanking. I think that its time for the taxman to tax performance bonuses and stock options at a higher rate. The greed that these multinationals exhibit in their operation has got to be contained. Its time for both federal and provincial to rein in these bandits.
