Governments need to be responsible for their spending

I have to respond to Bill Dwyers letter regarding the HST and the necessity of it.

I have to respond to Bill Dwyers letter regarding the HST and the necessity of it. Bill has it right on the need for taxes to improve/maintain services, the point that is missed by him is this:

Money can be spent in a number of ways, government of all ilk's still have to be responsible for this spending, and that is where it falls apart. Yes we have debt, but is the debt by frivolous spending, increased wages etc. In my home there are always things I want, but do not necessarily need, I have to curb spending to accommodate my needs, especially in times of fiscal uncertainty. The government chooses not to do these things, but continues to spend, not on needs, because they are aware that the pot seldom runs dry. Whatever happened to the lottery windfalls that were to fund education and health exclusively. I remember the promise that was what the gaming revenues were for.

Yes Bill, taxes are a necessary evil, but lets get the spending priorities straight.

I am a concerned taxpayer.
