I am not very knowledgeable around the many issues in the dispute of the B.C. Teachers, however I have noticed some essential points have been obscured by deceptive language and partisan politics.
When political ideology is the impetus behind imposed working conditions without regard for the needs of those who do the teaching the system is destined to fail.
Apparently many collective agreements have been settled with a net zero clause. By no logical thinking does that invalidate the needs and wishes of the teachers.
The mandarins in government have had many opportunities to lead by example and failed. Members of government were not nearly so parsimonious in adjusting their own salaries. We didn't hear of net zero even as a point of discussion.
