When talking about the Pine Valley golf course Mayor Sheri Green should have had a small history lesson regarding golf in the City of Prince George before she spoke about golf being in decline. The number of golfers supporting the Pine Valley golf course is in decline would be more truthful. Since 1998 four new golf courses have opened in the Prince George area and the quality and choices of where to golf has improved for the golfer. It wouldn't surprise me if there was another golf course opening soon on the property the Prince George Golf and Curling club just sold on North Nechako.
Should the tax payers of the City of Prince George subsidize the Pine Valley golf course? No.
Should the City of Prince George be in the golf business? No.
Should any form of government be in business where private enterprise is willing to compete. No.
Should government be there to set and enforce the rules? Yes.
Should the City of Prince George sell the sell the Pine Valley property to a private operator at the price tag of $17 million? I don't think there would be any takers.
What is the solution? Ask the taxpayers in a referendum and quit spending money on studies.
