In following the daily investigation by the Vancouver City Police on the tasering of an 11-year-old boy and some of the comments being made, I think it's important to recognize the incident prior to this boy being Tasered. From the reports, he stabbed his support worker.
If each and every one of us were in the shoes of the member who used the Taser, can we actually say what we would do in an instant?
And that is all it takes, an instant to make a life altering decision. On the other hand, if Tasers weren't used, the only other choice would be the members handgun.
In this instance, the child survived the Taser, he may not have been as fortunate to dodge a bullet. Many people have argued he is an 11-year-old child.
Read the news in any newspaper and see what an 11-year-old child is capable of folks.
Wrestle him to the ground? With a knife in his hand after carving up a case worker? Who wants to do that? Any volunteers?
An investigation into this matter is being conducted and so should it be. We, the public have a right to know what happened.
