To mayor and members of council.
I am very concerned about the lack of direction council has given to the city administration, in regards to the collection of outstanding traffic and parking fines that have not been collected in the city for the last number of years.
I have been told by Mayor Green that, "It is too expensive to put into the hands of a collection agency." I was also told that "There is no other way to force people to pay these fines at the present time."
People are presently deliberately ignoring the tickets they are issued. People who are honest or don't know, pay their fines.
I have also been told by Mayor Green that there were fines of more than $1 million.
May I suggest that council direct the administration to investigate the "boot" as it is known, which can be also used with an impoundment, if necessary.
Some shopkeepers and workers are ignoring the city parking rules and park all day right in front of their own stores.
The city is telling the taxpayers in this city how much they are short and crying that they do not have the finances to keep up with the paving requirements, and having to raise the property taxes. There is all that money going to waste. I realize that the city administration runs the day-to-day operation of the city, but the council must give them direction to finalize and collect this gross waste of the tax payers money.
