Although my opinions are diametrically opposed to most of those of Nathan
Giede on economic, social, religious and political issues, I follow his columns in the
Citizen. I may be as opinionated as the next person but I do try to keep an open mind... up to a point.
As a former American, Mr Giede's column Jan. 24 pushed those limits for
me. Mr Giede extols the policies of President Trump while trashing our Prime Minister
Trudeau. So why is Mr. Giede still among us in this benighted land of snow and
"socialism" when the charms of our sunny, enlightened, free-enterprise neighbour
beckon?
I suggest that we collectively raise a fund sponsoring Mr Giede's relocation to the
States, temporarily if necessary, from which he could report on his experiences. He
could pack his guns and his red ball cap and move to an area, preferably in the Rust Belt, where he could see the real USA, down and gritty. If he were to guarantee the Citizen two or three weekly columns relating his views and experiences we could all be enlightened.
As a First Nations person from Canada, he might be surprised to find some Americans would dismiss him as just another minority person to be ignored and
ridiculed. He might there find that the idealized world of unfettered free enterprise to
which extremists yearn, has room for a very few at the top and a miserable exploited
mass beneath.
