Everyone has a story to tell, but we don't always get to hear it. Luckily, there is now a place online where Prince George locals can share some of their best memories with the rest of the world. It can be found on our new website, takeonPG.com, under the heading "Local's Take".
We went looking for people with a passion for the north, and we found some! From now until the end of February, meet Shayne, Scott, Kev, Katherine, and Jimi--just a few of the "locals" in Prince George. These storytellers are the ones who know our city the best: some have grown up here, some arrived by default, but all have stayed for different reasons.
We asked them why they love Prince George, and the one thing they all agreed on was: it's the people. Kev Cotter, Program Director and morning show radio host on 94XFM, doesn't hesitate to explain: "My favourite thing is the attitude of the people in Prince George. Whenever something negative comes up or a tragic event occurs, we don't look the other way--we're always willing to give a helping hand."
That sentiment is echoed by Scott McWalter, who has recently returned to his hometown after having spent some time in Vancouver. "There's something different about the people in PG compared to other cities. They're caring, they're passionate, they're engaged in the community, and it almost feels like everyone has each other's back. I like that." He goes on to share his love of our natural surroundings and how lucky we are to be living so close to such amazing outdoor experiences.
Katherine Sinclair has moved around from place to place, including Whitehorse, Calgary and the Lower Mainland. Each time, she's found herself back at home soon after. "Prince George seems to have a mysterious draw to it--you always return. At least that's how it is for me," she shares.
