This is an open letter to our infamous city council and Councillor Brian Skakun.
Let's look at some facts here. When the price of crude oil hit $109 a barrel, the price of gas jumped to $1.33.9/per litre. The current price of crude is $89.34/U.S a barrel and the price of gas is still 1.33.9/litre in Prince George.
Let's look at some other interesting tidbits. According to BCGasPrices.com, the B.C. average price per litre of gas is 1.37.62/litre, the national average is $1.26.89/liter. The B.C. average includes the road tax of 18 cents per litre in the Lower Mainland.
The lowest price for gas in B.C. is $1.19.9/litre in Kamloops. In Kelowna the price per litre is $1.25.9, in Quesnel it's $1.30.9 per litre. In Williams Lake it's $1.29.9 per litre. In Victoria it's $1.34.9 per litre.
We in Prince George pay $1.33.9 per litre and we have a refinery right in town.
The way I see it, we pay way too much for gas as it is and city council and especially Coun. Skakun have the audacity to propose a three-cents per litre tax on gas for road repairs.
We pay enough for taxes in this city as it is. Look for other ways to raise money for road repairs, like maybe cutting your salaries a bit, or maybe not spending $50,000 on electric cars.
