Two recent contributors responding to a story about the city's linen contract being awarded to a firm outside the city have been critical of the current council.
To me it seems the matter requires further comment.
According to the account published in The Citizen, the local business had filled the contract for five years beginning 2011. It did not say whether the contract was awarded year by year or whether the contract was awarded for five years back in 2011.
However, it did say that the local business has charged the city $115,000 each year, but that this year the manager tendered only $70,000.
That to me requires further explanation. Has the contract changed?
Perhaps this contractor got a very good deal from the council or councils that awarded the contract in previous years.
