I continue to be amazed at the level of apathy in Prince George towards the price of fuel here.
We have a refinery right in our backyard which would suggest that transportation costs would be minimal, yet we still pay much more per litre then our neighbours in Kamloops. As of this morning's newspaper, the price of fuel in Kamloops is 119.9 cents per litre a full 10 cents less than in Prince George. How can this price differential possibly be explained except through some form of price fixing or collusion. Perhaps it's because us Prince Georgians are used to paying more for things huh.
Some time ago, one of our city counsellors floated the idea of a gas tax to fund needed city infrastructure. Today I would consider the gas tax option if the city would immediately open an investigation into possible price fixing on fuel costs. The people in Prince George deserve an answer as to why we are continuously being fleeced on fuel.
In the interim, I encourage others to once again join me in my own personal protest on fuel costs. I vowed some time ago to never purchase another litre of fuel from a Petro Can station and I have stuck to that promise. Let's stop being apathetic, join me in my protest and perhaps we can actually see some form of fuel cost differential in this community. It is long past time we did something on this issue.
