Ashley MacDonald states in an editorial in the Sept. 25 edition of The Citizen that the Canadian Medical Association, representing 70,000 doctors, call the bill before Parliament, to study when an unborn child becomes a human being, a backdoor attempt to criminalize abortion. But what the head of this organization says may not be the opinion of 70,000 doctors.
If the Criminal Code states that a child becomes a human being "when it has completely, proceeded in a living state, from the body of it's mother"; then it is surprising that virtually no Canadian doctor will perform a late term abortion. Could it be that 69,000 plus doctors in Canada know, and believe, that a baby a short time before birth is already a child, that should not be killed?
Other developed nations have rules about late term abortions. It is time it also was regulated in Canada.
MacDonald states in her article that "Every M.P. will be tasked with deciding whether they will stand up for the reproductive rights of women". I do not see it that way. Nobody is talking about taking away a woman's right to reproduce.
In Canada, there is no law against using birth control devices, so why would a woman not protect herself from becoming pregnant, and if she becomes pregnant, and carries the baby within her for months, why not carry it to full term?
It can then be adopted out, if the woman is unable to care for it. Canada needs more population.
A report in the Sept. 26 Citizen tells of a woman in the U.K. getting eight years in jail for taking drugs to kill her baby in her womb, after 38 weeks gestation.
