I am a dog owner and resident of North Nechako, yet am fed up by the lack of courtesy that other dog owners in North Nechako demonstrate by allowing their dogs to bark for extended periods of time, day and night. It is not neighborly and extremely irritating. It is not just a dog or two, but many dogs that demonstrate this behaviour. It is not only when someone walks along the street in front of their home, but occurs when no living being is in sight. I am not talking about 10 or 20 minutes as I can handle that, but for an hour or more at a time the same dog barks.
My dog is not particularly well trained. She barks briefly at times, but these dogs bark and bark and bark and nobody stops them. Are their owners at home? If yes, why don't you stop your dogs? If you're not home, then don't leave your dog outside because it barks the entire time you are gone. These barking dogs disrupt the peace of an otherwise lovely neighbourhood. Some days these dogs wake my sleeping baby from his nap upstairs inside our house. The noise is loud and longstanding to cause this level of disruption.
What is the solution? My current action plan includes knocking on your door to tell you that your dog is barking (because you don't seem to notice) or making a noise complaints to Bylaw Services every time this happens. I'd rather do neither of these things and instead propose that all dog owners in North Nechako control their pets and be kind to their neighbours.
