In the last episode or Caribou Joe and the Building of the Grand Trunk Pacific, a sleeping Joe recovers from a tumble off a jigger in the Wall brothers' shack, reliving his rail riding adventure in his dreams.
Joe was in the driver's seat of the stolen velocipede once again. The three-wheeled machine hugged the tracks as he rounded the corner, just before the Tte Jaune station.
Then Joe felt like he was floating above the tracks, moving at an ever increasing speed. He tried to slow down but his hands were permanently fixed to the handles of the torque lever. His arms moved back and forth, back and forth. He was beginning to feel exhausted. Through the darkness and straight ahead, Joe saw two bright haunting eyes of a mammoth caribou.
The beast stood in the center of the railroad tracks. The eyes blended into one as Joe moved closer and closer.
Then, everything began to slow down. The caribou lowered its giant rack.
The antlers mysteriously transformed into a massive steel cow-catcher, just like the ones Joe had seen on Grand Trunk Pacific locomotive engines. Joe could see long streams of steam spraying out of the frame work of the ever-changing black caribou. Finally, Joe was confronted by the front of a locomotive engine.
A long-sounding whistle began to blow. The advancing light was almost on top of Joe. The high-pitched scream of the whistle continued, louder and louder. Joe could hear a man's voice calling out to him, "J.L., wake up! J.L., wake up!" Something was biting into Joe's arm.
Suddenly he woke in a cold sweat. The high-pitched scream of the whistle continued. Joe strained his eyes to see the dark figure of the man next to him. He tried to sit up, then collapsed like a sack of rice.
In the next episode, Joe finds two new friends in the Wall brother's shack.
