Either this generation recycles the trash, or our kids will have to

I agree with Amber Cross in regards to her Nov. 5 letter "City hall must get on board with recycling." At our home, we recycle everything and deposit it into the correct recycling bin at the landfill.

At our home, we recycle everything and deposit it into the correct recycling bin at the landfill. Glass containers are dropped off at the bottle depot. Unfortunately, plastic ends up in the garbage. The other day at the landfill as I threw a bag into the garbage bin, I looked down and saw a number of beer cans, glass beer bottles plus water and energy drink bottles.

This was not the first time.

People who are struggling financially, would love to have the extra dollars that are being thrown away.

Talking to a worker, I was told that on numerous occasions he has pointed out the recycling bins to people as they arrive.

Some will go to the correct bin, some will give him a dirty look and/or swear at him and continue dumping everything into the garbage bin.

He told me, that he has no power to make them put the material in the correct bin and that we are just a little bit too far away from Vancouver for recycling to be profitable. Why don't we have our own recycling plant to service all of central and northern B.C.?

Another problem is the garbage that falls off of vehicles that are going to the landfill.

Do people not notice it falling off? Why do they not stop and clean up their mess?

The sign at the entrance of the landfill states, "a double charge may be imposed where a load is not adequately covered and/or secured."

If commercial has to be covered, why not everybody else?

Some suggestions:

1 - All loads must be covered and/or secured.

2 - What is brought to the landfill goes into the correct container.

Either we do more or our children and our grandchildren will have to clean up the mess, literally.

Lastly, why is the methane gas that is being vented out of the landfill, not being collected and sold?
