As taxpayers and citizens of British Columbia, I believe we all have a vested interest in ensuring that our children enjoy the benefits of an effective, healthy education system. I am appalled that the Liberal government would use my education taxes to fund daycare in a blatant attempt to gain public support and once again demonize the thousands of dedicated, hard-working teachers who have been on strike to gain back provisions illegally stripped from their contracts by this same government in 2002.
According to the government's own spokesperson, the daily cost of these daycare subsidies will equal the daily cost of running our education system! I say use my education taxes where they belong, not to fund daycare -- and if it means an increase in taxes to ensure the high-quality education system BC children deserve, so be it. The future of this province demands a highly educated, skilled populace. Browbeating teachers in the name of fiscal responsibility is just playing politics with the future of our children.
