Education needs overhaul

Is the educational system broken and in need of a complete review or is this just a case of pumping more money into the system? Personally it's not realistic to think more money will fix the situation we are faced with today.

Is the educational system broken and in need of a complete review or is this just a case of pumping more money into the system? Personally it's not realistic to think more money will fix the situation we are faced with today. Present day funding from the ministry and the millions parents personal contribute to their child's education per-year has many of us posing the question. Just where are the dollars being spent? What's the breakdown? It's just a little tiresome to hear the BCTF demand more funding with the only resolve being to blame government or the Olympics, not much change, there is always someone else to point the finger at. The system is failing many of our children although everyone claims to act in their best interest are they? In my view, the educational system needs an overhaul not more money, and be assured the results may be difficult and unpleasant for some, but in the end it's about our children whether they be from an urban or rural community, it's about giving them the tools to survive in an ever-changing and complicated world. Let's look under the bed of our educational system and clean it up. Make the changes required and remember it's about the children and their future, which we will all depend on in the years ahead. The editorial in Jan. 27 Citizen should really start people thinking and stop the blame game, we all know there is always more to the story than meets the eye. Let's start with some accountability for the educational dollars already in place and put everything on the table.
