Education cutbacks necessary

I understand how some people feel about the school closures because my elementary school in Coquitlam closed a few years ago. As upset as many people were, it was a necessary loss.

I understand how some people feel about the school closures because my elementary school in Coquitlam closed a few years ago. As upset as many people were, it was a necessary loss. It is clear that it costs a lot of money to run a school, so if there isn't enough money or students the schools don't need to be kept open.

I was able to appreciate the closure in high school because my peers and I were able to enjoy a great band program, art and tech courses, and well funded sports teams. If the schools had stayed open many programs would have had to been trimmed down or dropped.

Of course the government could put more money into the inefficient schools, but that would require more taxes. And with all the whining about the HST, the people of B.C. have been pretty clear they are don't want to be taxed.
