While reading the Aril 9, edition of The Prince George Citizen I came upon an editorial By the managing editor, titled 'the same disdain'. This upset me for more than one reason. First, Margret Thatcher was the first politician, in my mind that kept her word, if she said she was going to do something, she did it.
Secondly, when the Labour Party she replaced had England on its knees, headed for destruction, she pulled it back up on its feet. The article describes her as a bully, I think not unless the editor's definition of a bully is someone who, because they are under pressure can be diverted from the platform that had brought them to power just to appease the opposing Labour Party. The author of this article states that she was ripping the country apart when he arrived in 1990 after finishing journalist school. What was his problem? Didn't he have the talent to get a job? He said the country was in a mess. I was there in 1959 and 60 and everyone except the usual malcontents who are never content with anything, everyone seemed happy.
He said she used military adventures to further her personal popularity and her political ambitions, but there are a couple of things to consider. Argentina was being ruled by a military dictatorship that was flexing its muscles and they assumed the British would not use force if the Argentineans invaded the Falklands. Neither the Argentineans nor the author of this article understands the pride of the British people. Were they about to let a homicidal maniac slaughter their people the way he was slaughtering the people of Argentina.
Margret Thatcher wasn't kicked out of her position; she was brought down by trusted people within her party who, because of her success, caused enough detention within the party that she was removed as leader. Does this not seem to have a little flash of dj vu when considering the atmosphere in our resent provincial situation?
Maybe if the author of this article wasn't so blinded by his Socialist Ideology he might have given one of the great leaders of our times a little credit. While I was doing this article I sent his article to three of my friends on the British Isles. Two are retired naval personal and the third is a truck driver and they all agree the author hadn't done his research and that was the nicest comment they made.
