Ecole College Heights elementary school - giving back

What a year it has been for Mr. Nipp's Grade 6/7, Division 7 class at Ecole College Heights Elementary School. For six months the class has been fundraising for their year-end field trip to Ness Lake Bible Camp.

What a year it has been for Mr. Nipp's Grade 6/7, Division 7 class at Ecole College Heights Elementary School. For six months the class has been fundraising for their year-end field trip to Ness Lake Bible Camp. The class worked extremely hard fundraising so that all students in the class could attend the field trip at no expense to any family.

In an effort to give back to the community for their kindness, the class participated and volunteered in the "Relay For Life" as the "Fight Back Crew" promoting cancer prevention and awareness. Zach Chipman and Eden Gladesdahl were the co-captains of the Fight Back Crew. Zach is also the Youth Liaison for the Canadian Cancer Society in Prince George.

The students prepared for the relay by researching ways to prevent cancer and shared prevention tips with others at the track. The students also volunteered their time helping with a variety of duties at the Relay For Life including selling luminaries, raffle tickets, face painting and concession advertising. Their willingness to volunteer their time and participate in the Relay For Life was truly sensational and heart warming. Their time commitment included the majority of the day on Saturday and a late night return for many to participate in an emotional midnight ceremony. Sunday morning saw the students rally the walkers during their last lap of the 24 hour Relay For Life and end the ceremony with their own "fight back" cheer at the closing ceremony.

This giving back event was a great bonding experience for the kids and not only helped build their confidence as individuals in the community but also brought awareness to many of the students as to how cancer touches so many lives.
