Revelatory 'news' stories about the danger dust poses to saw mills puzzle me. During the 60s, while working part-time as a clean-up boy, I'd put in extra shifts blowing dust from rafters and trusses and from any other spots that we didn't clean during weekly shut-downs.
Why? The "insurance company" insisted on it. And we understood why the insurance company
did so: It had been general knowledge for decades, perhaps centuries, that dust of any kind can be explosive.
So why has dust become a new issue?
