With the elections coming up, I hope there is a plan to get rid of the dumping fees.
While the district may feel this is justified and necessary to maintain solid waste management, it is devastating for the environment as illegal dumping is on the increase.
It is beyond belief that so many Canadians feel it is their right and privilege to dump their garbage down a hillside or into a creek, but adding fees for dumping is adding one more factor that "encourages" this kind of behaviour.
Removing the fees and launching an all-out media campaign to discourage illegal dumping would be the way to go.
Find the money somewhere other than charging fees--it doesn't work to protect our precious environment.
