Whoda thunk it: The Citizen still quoting results of polls taken by telephone.
Polls during B.C.'s last election claimed an NDP victory and a whopping Liberal defeat. The Citizen regurgitated those professional polls and did the same with the inaccurate ones concerning Quebec's last election.
You'd think they'd learn.
But no, they conduct their own poll; Cameron Stolz's unpaid taxes and then write another editorial based on more unscientifically gathered numbers.
Quote by Alaska's Sarah Palin: "Polls? Nah...they're for strippers and cross-country skiers."
Only accurate polls in politics are those taken on Election Day and here are two samples.
Washington DC's Mayor Marion Barry charged with three counts of perjury and ten of conspiracy to possess cocaine, remained in office during trial. He was sent to jail for six months. Upon release he ran and won the mayor's chair.
President Clinton impeached for perjury, because he bare-faced lied to a grand jury when claiming "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Clinton left office with the highest end-of-office approval rating of any U.S. president since WWII.
Yes, both examples are American so let's add Premier Campbell's drunk-driving charge and his lie about selling B.C. Rail. Neither of these offences stopped him, not even the one which has left many children orphans, drunk driving. After those offences his Liberals won two more elections and today Campbell is Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Neil, how are your taxes? I advise caution. Politics today, Cameron Stolz could be Revenue Canada's next CEO.
Cameron Stolz has the right to manage his life as he deems necessary.
Failure in one area of life is often accompanied by success in another. An all-encompassing perfection within our politicians is impossible. The Internet's inability to forget, for example, makes lowering the moral bar necessary.
Extensive moral judging in politics has (like Elvis) left the building. Today, people lean more toward the efforts of the politician rather than their private life. Everyone juggles life, but how politicians run theirs is not necessarily how they will run the country or city, so please Citizen, when reporting (politically) do not seek support for your opinions by jumping to another inaccurate interpretation of unscientifically-gathered numbers that have been collected by phone. Numbers gathered by that system, even when done by professionals, falls far short of supplying proof-of or enforcing a rule-of-fact-about anything.
