Prince George has a large community of active, athletic people out there, and I commend this group. I appreciate the city's continued improvements at creating more infastructure that allows and encourages city residents to become more physically active.
This is the lead up to my complaint- Please don't use specifically designed bike lanes as a place to park your cars! I routinely travel to work on my bike using the Pulpmill Road along the Nechako River, and I often encounter vehicles parked below the cutbanks in the bike lane. This requires the bike riders to move out into the roadway where there is a lot of chip trucks, fuel trucks as well as all the passenger vehicles going to and from the industrial businesses located in the area.
The people parking their vehicles at the bottom of the popular cutbanks trail are there to get exercise climbing up the sandbanks, and I think this is great.
What I don't understand is that a small minority of people ignore the no parking sign and instead of parking in the designated parking 300 metres down the road at McMillan Creek parking lot, they choose to park right below the cutbanks in the bike lane.
This forces the bike riders as well as joggers and others out for a stroll to have to enter the busy roadway to get around the cars that are parked in the bike lane.
To those inconsiderate few, please park your cars at the parking lot that the city built for such a purpose. You'll get the extra bonus of burning a couple of more calories as you walk to the cutbanks trailhead. It's a win win for everyone and it makes it safer for me to ride my bike on Pulpmill Road. Thanks!
