I am concerned about the City's plan to alter the field facilities of Masich Place Stadium.
Some years ago my son and a half dozen other Quesnel athletes, girls and boys, trained with the Prince George Track and Field Club there. It was a top notch track and field facility where over 200 young people worked toward their goals. The recognized International Amateur Athletic Federation standards of the facilities gave added credibility and significance to their endeavours.
Some of them won athletic scholarships. Some became national champions. All, I believe, went to university.
Driving by Masich Place in the years since my son's track and field career I have always felt a sense of appreciation for the positive effects of the place and the club on his life and his peers. I have also felt appreciation for the availability of world class facilities to thousands of other youth over the years. Downgrading Masich Place track and field to accommodate high school football will downgrade opportunities for youth of the region.
