It was very disconcerting to read about the sexual and physical abuse at Lejac.
My mother, Wilma Bowen, God rest her soul, taught Grade three at Lejac for 15 years and she had nothing but compassion for her students.
I was a student at Lejac for Grade seven and eight and it was a good time in my life.
I made a lot of great friends and I still remember so many names and faces with whom I played hockey and softball and basketball.
There were some excellent people, a lot of them my relatives, who worked at Lejac over the years.
My grandfather and grandmother are buried there.
As I aged I realized the Gov't policy regarding residential schools was extremely unjust but who could reason with elected officials.
I was obviously unaware of the apparent violence and inappropriate criminal activities the children were subjected to at the hands of Ed Fitzgerald.
But, I pray to God not all the teachers, nuns, priests and administrative staff are tarred with the same brush.
