Disappointed with bonspiel coverage

Nice to see the extensive newspaper coverage of the Kelly Cup Men's bonspiel and the Women's Bonspiel that both took place at the curling rink last weekend in today's paper (Tuesday, April 4, 2017). Oh, wait.

Nice to see the extensive newspaper coverage of the Kelly Cup Men's bonspiel and the Women's Bonspiel that both took place at the curling rink last weekend in today's paper (Tuesday, April 4, 2017).

Oh, wait. The coverage is all about the Kelly Cup and not a word about the women's spiel.

That's odd. And this on a day when the editorial in the paper is titled, 'Girl Power' and talks about how women often are treated unfairly in society.

Way to go, P.G. Citizen. I expect you will likely get around to the ladies bonspiel in tomorrow's paper - half a week after it took place. And I wonder if the women's coverage will also be three-quarters of a page like the men's was? Perhaps if you hadn't found it necessary to run two large photos of both the winning and losing skips on the men's side, there may have been a few spare lines to mention that there were actually women curling last weekend as well. But then, I guess if you wait until tomorrow to cover the women, you can run more large photos to take up space and perhaps some people will believe that you are actually covering sporting events in Prince George responsibly.

I feel you have done a disservice to the women who participated in their bonspiel last weekend as well as all the other men's teams who competed - you really only told us about two teams other than listing the names of the skips who won the other men's events.

After decades of subscribing to The Citizen, I am getting very close to cancelling our newspaper subscription.

I fear the next time I am treated to two or three articles from the Washington Post that have nothing to do with Prince George, I may just decide there is no point to subscribing to a local paper that has so little local news in it.
