One Citizen's reader's comments on recent editorials, etc., starting with the Tuesday, July 11th editorial written by - let's assume - a rather cranky, exasperated editor chastising those folks "...showing up at any of the emergency response centres with crappy old appliances and the worn clothes of your closet."
He then makes a rather odd suggestion considering his assessment of said items, "Those should go to the Salvation Army and other area thrift stores who will then make those donations available to evacuated individuals on an as-needed basis."
Really?Did Mr. Godbout really write that? Did he even edit it?
Then on July 20, the same Mr. Godbout wrote an editorial of the highest calibre of poetic prose worthy to have bestowed upon him. A really beautiful piece of literature. Stunning.
Last Wednesday and Saturday, his editorials are chastising government, especially Messieurs Horgan and Trudeau for their "...shocking lack of sensitivity to more than 40,000 evacuated Cariboo residents.." not to mention the over two thousand volunteers, firefighters from across Canada and beyond and other folk willing and able to share their expertise wherever needed, by being so conspicuous by their absence.
An "etc. ": Local songwriter, William Kuklis, overheard the phrase "...now we're praying for rain" and wrote a song around it. Perhaps he can "build" another song around words in a caption under the picture of the horse evacuees in the barns, "there are (were) 179 horses, 39 chickens, two sheep five goats and one pig" (and a partridge in a pear tree!)...
Eight babies have been born to evacuated moms, a family from Williams Lake is to be united in a splendid (by the sounds of it) marriage and one gal said this has all been such a positive experience for her that she wants to stay and is going to hide in a closet when the bus comes to take them home!
