In 1967, my children and I moved to the Connaught neighbourhood. My children attended Connaught Elementary (now Ron Brent) and Connaught Jr. Sec. (now Connaught Youth Centre).
Now in the Citizen Sept 15 (page 5) it says I live in the VLA! No, I don't.
How can you quietly change the name of the Connaught neighbourhood to VLA? We were never part of the Veterans' Land Act!
The name Connaught is an historic name and if anything our neighbourhood should have a sign explaining the significance of it to tourists and obviously to powers that be at City Hall.
Arthur, Duke of Connaught, was the third son of Queen Victoria and was Governor-General of Canada from 1911-1916.
The Connaught neighbourhood is between Victoria St. and Queensway and from the north side of 20th Ave. over to Connaught Hill.
It's very sad that this letter needs to be written, that we need to plead for recognition of our neighbourhood.
How could this have happened? Would City Hall please publicly correct the error?
