Re: Driven to ask question in Saturday's Citizen.

Thank you for writing that letter, Jack Paul. I have a problem understanding this "law" too.

Example: I live in College Heights. When I enter Highway 16 from Southridge, if I am going downtown, of course I stay in the right lane and drive the speed limit of 60 km/h. If I am planning to turn left at the bottom of Peden Hill I immediately get into the left lane (if safe to do so), still trying to maintain the speed limit.

Why? Because if I don't, the drivers in the left lane going at 60-70-80 just won't let you in to make your left turn at the bottom of the hill.

Am I breaking the law?

Perhaps the RCMP or ICBC could clear this up, once and for all.

Editors note: The B.C. government passed Keep Right, Let Others Pass legislation effective June 2015, requiring motorists to keep right and let others pass on B.C. highways with two or more lanes of traffic travelling in the same direction and a posted speed limit of 80 km/h or greater.
