About a week ago I discovered what the letters GMO stood for. Genetically modified organisms. GMO is when you take the DNA from a plant and add pesticides or another gene and it becomes it's own living pesticide.
I discovered that I have been eating these GMO's for more than 15 years and didn't know about it. I have spent a lot of my spare time this past week learning about GMO's and the company that makes them, Monsanto. I have seen the results of many independent studies showing that these GMO's are a serious danger to us and the environment. This is very concerning to me.
Ninety per cent of our corn, soy, canola and sugar beets are GMO. That just shortened my grocery list substantially. Because after what I've learned this past week, I am refusing to eat this stuff. Many of you know about our bee population dying off, many studies are pointing to the herbicide Roundup, Monsanto's main herbicide spray.
But of course the company denies this just like they swear GMO's are safe, but if they are so safe why are so many countries banning them?
Many countries have banned GMO's and more than 50 counties have GMO labelling laws, Canada and the United States are the only two Industrialized countries that have not.
Some of you might be wondering why Canada and the United States have not joined. I have found a lot of documented evidence that explains why, but I only have so many words to work with here.
