Community support overwhelming for those in need

AWAC (An Association Advocating For Women And Children) is a non-profit organization which operates an emergency shelter, drop in, a supported housing program and outreach services to marginalized and vulnerable women and female youth. AWAC began in 1994 and in our current extreme weather can house up to 50 women per night.

On November 7, the Citizen ran an article titled "AWAC seeking donations for Christmas gift bags" written by reporter Mark Nielsen. The response from the community was overwhelming. The phone didn't stop ringing and donations were being dropped off at the shelter daily. Individuals, organizations and businesses placed huge effort into collecting gifts, food and cash donations amongst staff, family members and friends.

AWAC extends a heartfelt thank you to the Prince George Citizen, 97 Wolf FM, HSBC, Hospice Society, Eagles Hall, UNBC Peer Support Network, College of New Caledonia Deans' Area, First Baptist Church Bible Study Group, Integris Credit Union, Sinclair Group Forest Products, Cantilever Construction, IRL, Books & Company, B.C. Government Employees Union, Northern Health, Telus, the Red Hatters, the Rocky Mountain Rangers and numerous individuals.

Because of your generosity and kindness, 60 clients at AWAC had a very merry Christmas. This would not have been possible without this level of community support. We are indeed very fortunate to live in Prince George where there is much work being done for the higher good.
