Community Garden isn’t yours to take

The perennial gardens at the Studio 2880 complex on 15th Avenue has become a thing of beauty with the help of a grant from Enhance PG and with many of the plants donated by our members. At least it was until this week.

The perennial gardens at the Studio 2880 complex on 15th Avenue has become a thing of beauty with the help of a grant from Enhance PG and with many of the plants donated by our members.

At least it was until this week.

To the person who felt they had the right to help themselves to some of our most beautiful plants, and who was very rude to the staff in the process - we would appreciate their return, or, at the very least, a donation so that we may recover our garden.

It boggles the mind that someone would steal from a collective creation that took countless hours and contributions from the good hearted gardeners (including our own staff) of this city.

Not only that, the organization is a not-for-profit that works very hard to make a positive contribution to our community.

To justify your theft as "it's a community garden," shows your understanding of both community gardens and the not-for-profit sector is either sadly lacking or lacking in respect.

This act has hurt more than the vandalism that is occasionally visited on our buildings.

The vandalism, we assume from thoughtless rebellion, we can erase and repair.

The theft of the plants has left a hole in our flower beds and in our hearts.

We invite your apology and repayment. You know where to find us.

Respectfully submitted,

Wendy A. Young,
