I am a 60 year old woman on disability. I am also the person who has been guerilla gardening downtown. I have two garden beds on Fifth Avenue between George and Dominion and the bed in front of my carving behind the Chinese Store on Dominion.
These beds take four hours a day of weeding and watering unless it rains. As I returned home yesterday, I confronted a woman who was picking my veggies. I asked her what she was doing and she said that she was told it was a "community garden there for everyone," and she kept defending herself, an excuse for stealing from me.
It is because of this I am writing this letter to people who do not know what a "community garden" is. It is a group of like-minded people who get together in a garden environment. Not unlike the artistic or music communities.
So here's something to think about: if you did not plant it, water it or weed it, do not pick it.
Go grow your own gardens and leave ours alone. Please.
