In regards to Mr. Gibbons "For the record". I believe Mr. Gibbons has missed the point. There isn't much common sense in his letter.
Just because one pays taxes on these toys that give them the "rush", it does not give them the right to do so.
If putting one's life in danger is a rush, then why not put on a blindfold, and go jogging on the highway? No taxes there.
Here's the point: Before one decides to take their sled to the mountains to get that rush, one must consider the consequences of their actions should something go wrong.
First of all, not only are they putting their own life at risk, they are putting others' lives at risk should they cause an avalanche.
Second, what about all the families of these sledders who lost their lives. I doubt they share the "rush".
Third, who pays for the rescue efforts? That's right, you and me. And this gives me, and any taxpayer, the right to speak out against this rush seeking.
And last, but not least, what of the environmental impact of it all? An avalanche that is not caused naturally has un-natural consequences.
I agree with Mr. Gibbons. Common sense is not common, and one should be wise and informed before seeking this very dangerous "rush".
