Coldsnap offers great local entertainment

When I first heard, years ago, that the Prince George Folkfest had been rebranded as Coldsnap and moved to January, I admit, I was skeptical. But after the success of the Canada Winter Games last year, I think I finally get it.

When I first heard, years ago, that the Prince George Folkfest had been rebranded as Coldsnap and moved to January, I admit, I was skeptical. But after the success of the Canada Winter Games last year, I think I finally get it.

Coldsnap started this past weekend and I think that having the festival in the dreary January days is a good idea for a few reasons, chiefly because sometimes winter sucks and we in the North could use a reason to leave our homes during this time of the year.

I love a summer festival, but there are lots of reasons to go to a concert or workshop during Coldsnap 2016. If you are debating buying a ticket and perhaps need a little encouragement, here are a few items to consider if you need a little push in the right direction:

There is nothing really that spectacular on television right now until Outlander, Game of Thrones and Orphan Black start up again. At a concert, you may meet other people who are also waiting for these very excellent shows to begin again.

Are you an aspiring musician and you would like the rare opportunity to attend a workshop with exceptionally talented musicians but you are a little short on funds? Fear not, many of the musicians and talent performing at Coldsnap are offering free workshops throughout the week.

Would you like to hear musicians talk about what it's like to be a working musician?

The excellent husband of mine, William Kuklis, will be joining Ani Kyd and Aidyl Jago from Paul Jago & SAID DOG will be having a panel discussion on Business Realities for Aspiring Musicians moderated by Fraser Hayes from CFUR 88.7 FM.The panel discussion is this coming Saturday from 1-2:30 p.m. at the UNBC Northern Undergraduate Student Centre. It will be an interesting and lively discussion from the panelists.

Have you always wanted to hear a selection of sensational northern B.C. singers? It just so happens that the excellent and talented husband above, is joining a regional showcase of some super northern B.C. talent.Join us at Artspace on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to see William Kuklis, Boxwood and Juniper, Power Duo and Bottle In Front Of You play. You won't regret it.Plus, what better way to get through the work week than a concert on a Wednesday?

Music is good for the soul.

Going to see live music makes you smarter. It's true.

There are so many more exciting and interesting concerts and workshops taking place around the city this week. Get out of your house and come in from the cold.Visit www.coldsnapfestival.com for show times and ticket prices.

Shovelling the driveway can wait.
