I would like to point out to the mayor of Vanderhoof as an owner of property in Prince George we all pay taxes for school, transportation, recreation, etc. That is part of being a property owner. Why in the world would he think the children of Vanderhoof would be entitled to benefits because they or their parents buy property in Prince George or any other city that has a university?
He wouldn't be expected to also pick up the tab for a pool in Vanderhoof like the people on Cluculz Lake and Bobtail got stuffed down our throats.
The area F people should never have included the Bobtail and Cluculz Lakes because the chances of us going there to swim are slim at best. When we tried to get funding for a Volunteer Fire Department through a referendum it only included the surrounding fire designated area and not everyone. Our mistake I guess we should have included everyone like the pool referendum. If he is concerned he should be; as I for one will not be spending any of my after tax dollars in Vanderhoof and urge others to do the same.
I went into Vanderhoof from the Lake on occasion for shopping, a treat, to buy, hardware and furniture etc as it is the same distance as going into Prince George. In the future I will turn right to Prince George, not left to Vanderhoof. Hope the extra money from the taxes will keep the businesses of Vanderhoof afloat so they can get to the pool to practice their skills. It's not about the money, it's about who was included to build your dream.
It was turned down when other district areas were included whose children will use the pool. Perhaps he could explain how we were included and the others left out of the vote. The answer is simple. It would have been defeated as in previous attempts. Prince George could use an outdoor ice oval similar to Fort St. John for the future of the Winter Games, as all surrounding communities will benefit so we should get a referendum going and get it built.
