I believe that when the Province of BC has a "zero" wage increase policy the same should hold true for municipalities including P.G.
Any wage increases should be funded through savings found internally. Municipalities have become like Translink in Vancouver, always going to the taxpayer through property taxes to fund their ever growing appetite. The feds download their responsibilities to the provinces who in turn download it onto the municipalities who come to the taxpayer. You see they have us over a barrel. The homeowner refuses to pay their taxes and the city simply takes their home through a tax sale for non payment. It appears the municipal politicians have learned well, simply ramming increases down the throats of the taxpayer, stay the course for four years and even if not reelected they've earned their handsome pensions and stroked their egos.
I can't remember when there was any talk of a strike by CUPE employees of the city. Is that because we jump to give them all what they want? They should be treated no different then the provincial employees with the "zero" policy, after all there's only one taxpayer. I really feel my tax dollars are being well spent when I drive past a construction site and there is one hole in the ground but half a dozen hardhats standing around looking into it.
