I just moved away from Prince George end of June, and worked in the downtown core in the same building for seven years.
I came to P.G. for the long weekend and worked from the office here on Tuesday. I went out and moved my vehicle every two hours as per the two hour time limit per block (as I have done for seven years).
On my last move I noticed I got a parking ticket. I was for sure within my time limit, so upon inspection it turns out that my front passenger door was in front of a pole. $25 fine. The yellow paint to indicate "no parking" was clearly 10-15 feet behind my car; and the two hour parking sign had new stickers and a new little park on this side sign above that.
I went to city hall to inquire about this and was told that Prince George doesn't need to paint the cement at all anymore, that it doesn't mean anything.
So despite that half the curb indicates no parking with fresh paint on the curb, the 10-15 feet in front without paint does not indicate you can park there.
I was forced to pay the fine as I borrowed the car I used today and didn't want them to have this on their license plate number; if I lived in town, I would have disputed this.
I just wanted the citizens of Prince George to know that the city isn't required to paint curbs or lines or anything on the cement to indicate no parking or otherwise (even though half of it is painted, indicating no parking).
I find this outrageous! What about all the young people starting to drive? How are they to be aware of the city's own rules as far as parking?
