City needs to clean up its act

Cleaning up around town seems to be a city priority, and it's been cracking down on disgraceful trailer parks, derelict properties and irresponsible landlords.

Bravo!

However, take a good look around the city, and everywhere on city property there are weeds and grass growing through cracks in sidewalks, along business fronts, around telephone poles and along fences. Traffic medians are lined with dead grasses, and in one area of 3rd Avenue, pedestrians literally have to walk out into the street because bushes and grasses block the sidewalk. To be honest, it's kind of depressing, like Prince George is becoming a ghost town while people still live here. I can't imagine what visitors think driving around, other than thinking it's a beautiful community that looks like it's been forgotten and neglected. Is this intentional? Are we deliberately trying to discourage people from visiting and moving here?

And, it's not just the city.

Empty lot owners, homeowners, rental properties and way too many businesses, make little to no effort to clean up and maintain their property, and it cannot be having a positive effect on tourism, or on real estate worth. I wish property owners would understand that it is absolutely in their best interest to keep their land looking good, as it raises property values, which translates to big bucks in the bank for those smart enough to see the need to get rid of the weeds, and who have enough class to cut the grass. Prince George is a wonderful community, filled with awesome people.

It would sure be nice if the city took some pride in its appearance, because beautiful communities attract beautiful people, which makes real sense for the city to clean up it's act, as it asks others to do.
