City hall buffoons

I see the buffoons of city hall are at it again. They are letting a non-elected entity try to levy a tax to support some ill-fated cause. If the businesses downtown can't operate and maintain their businesses, it's time to quit.

I see the buffoons of city hall are at it again. They are letting a non-elected entity try to levy a tax to support some ill-fated cause. If the businesses downtown can't operate and maintain their businesses, it's time to quit. Propping up store fronts with taxpayer dollars doesn't quite cut it. If the businesses want to improve, pull on the gloves, grab a broom or bucket of paint and brush and get moving.

There is one store downtown that has proved its worth over the years, and this was attained by a lot of hard work and attention to detail. It can be done. The last thing we need are more novelty shops, book stores, or craft shops that sell products that the mass citizenry doesn't use. Put in and promote businesses that draw the people back to city centre and make those businesses pay for the privilege. Take a look at Casino-gate. To get the "homeless" out of downtown, hand them a broom and assign some sidewalk. Work or leave, don't be a nuisance.

Maybe a good solution would be to line up several D9 Caterpillar bulldozers and push the whole mess into the river. I know if I asked city hall for assistance in improving my home, the silence would be deafening. Every time we turn around, some level of government piggybacks a tax on another tax. When you reach the bottom of the column, it's ultimately us, the taxpayer, who pays the bottom line. Quit spending the money on flowers and fancy light standards (gateway project) and put more shovels in the dirt. If the tourism operators want to improve things, let them reach into their own jeans, after all they are the beneficiaries of all this largess. I should pay taxes for policing, road and street maintenance, water, sewer and garbage. If I want to participate in their businesses, I'll open my wallet.
