City deaf to residents

Why does the city council not listen to what the citizens want? From what I hear and read, a developer is wanting to change the zoning of the Haldi Road School so that it can be leased to an alcohol and drug treatment society.

Why does the city council not listen to what the citizens want?

From what I hear and read, a developer is wanting to change the zoning of the Haldi Road School so that it can be leased to an alcohol and drug treatment society. The area residents appear to be strongly against this change. It has been reported that up to 90 per cent of the residents in a area covering a one-mile radius of the school are opposed to the rezoning.

A recent article I read indicates that the Haldi residents are making plans to remove their area from the city and rejoin the regional district. What the city is currently offering in exchange is no voice in what is happening in their neighbourhood and a higher tax bill. Why are we putting the residents in this position? We have to do better!
